From Agrelo to Chubút: An exploration of Argentinian Malbecs & Terroirs
Bodega Argento’s head winemaker Juan Pablo Murgia and Drink Business’s Patrick Schmitt, welcomed us to a comprehensive tasting of Malbec from some of the most exciting sub-regions of Argentina, which was held at the Oasis Farm, Waterloo, London.
This live tasting event explored different expressions of Malbecs from Mendoza’s sub-regions of Alto Agrelo, Altamira and Gualtallary as well as recent developments in Patagonia, with a specific focus on organic & sustainable production, soil & vineyard management, and how to tackle challenges posed by climate change.
Discussions on the impact of terroir and soil was illustrated by a tasting of Malbecs from Bodega Argento’s top vineyard sites in Mendoza as well as a Malbec made by Juan Pablo Murgia at Bodega Otronia in Chubút, Patagonia. Both wineries are part of leading Argentinian wine group, Grupo Avinea.
The line-up included Bodega Argento’s Single Vineyard and Single Block Organic Malbecs and introduced new premium releases such as Argento Estate Reserve and Argento Estate Collection Organic Malbecs.
It was also the first opportunity to taste the white organic Fairtrade Malbec in the Artesano de Argento range.
